NEW Ferrari 296 GTB 2022 video review

A hybrid electric supercar?! The Ferrari line-up just keeps on getting better. Rory Reid reviews the new 2022 plug-in hybrid Ferrari 296 GTB sports car.

The world is changing every day, and as we enter the age of automotive electrification, it’s no surprise that big names like Ferrari are embracing plug-in technology with open arms and delivering electric supercars.
Although the first all-electric Ferrari won’t be launched until 2025, the hybrid 296 GTB is here to play. Back in June 2021 when the 296 GTB was unveiled, Ferrari vowed that this car would be innovative and fun to drive. Ferrari has now released their highly anticipated 296 GTB; a stunning combination of pure power and luxury, which promises an exhilarating drive. Check out our video where Free Trader UK’s Rory Reid takes the Ferrari 296 GTB for a spin to find out if it lives up to the hype.

Ferrari 296 GTB specs

The launch of the new 296 GTB (which stands for Gran Turismo Berlinetta) has redefined the meaning of a fun driving experience for everyday drivers and adrenaline junkies alike.
With a top speed of 205mph and 0-60 time of 2.9 seconds, the new Ferrari is powered by a ground-breaking hybrid 2.9-litre V6 twin-turbo engine, combined with a 123-kW electric motor, boasting 830 horsepower. However, the highlight of this stunning hybrid would be the sound. The 296 GTB’s low rumble quickly grows to a roar as it pounces towards its 8,500rpm limiter, whilst Ferrari’s Hot Tube Resonator technology pipes authentic-sounding exhaust frequencies into the car for a natural soundtrack.

Ferrari 296 GTB design

According to Ferrari’s Chief Design Officer, Flavio Manzoni, their team approached the design of the new 296 GTB similarly to that of musicians jamming in a jazz band – taking inspiration from their previous models and their desire to create something modern and innovative whilst remaining true to the brand.
Manzoni explains, “the inspiration is the innovation. To start an idea, you always must look forward, but fortunately, Ferrari has such a rich heritage that it's easy to connect our new ideas to the past.” One feature that stands out in particular on the latest model is the taillights, which have been redesigned to deviate from Ferrari’s standard round design to a flatter, more angular look. As we move into the age of electrification, Ferrari’s experimentations are more than welcome, and we can’t wait to see what they decide to switch up next.

Ferrari 296 GTB interior

Ferrari never fails to impress when it comes to their well-crafted interiors and the 296 GTB is no exception; from its high quality, impeccably stitched leather to the large, curved display, it all looks phenomenal. It even has a generously sized front boot, making the GTB a practical choice for a sports car.
More technologically advanced than its predecessors, the new Ferrari features more functions than ever, all of which can be controlled via the steering wheel (with no secondary screen), so everything is in one accessible place. Unfortunately, this efficiency makes for a difficult time when trying to use the navigation system while controlling the music system, but if you can overlook that, you’re in for an enjoyable ride.

Ferrari 296 GTB price

Prices currently start at £241,550 in the UK.
